Proud Momma

Snow day might have come and gone but the snow has been hiding my car since today. Snow day melted away and then came back strong that night. Apparently our little town saved the snow for several days longer than surrounding areas. So we have been hiding inside since then. On Thursday (aka snow day) we had to make a trip to town to visit the dr in between snow storms. Landon got his big boy 2 month shots. Mom and dad were prepared for blood curdling screaming for the rest of the day but actually, he did great! There was the initial needle poke scream that was silent for 30 seconds and we couldn't get him to take a breathe moment....But after that he was pretty norm. I'll never forget that face though...poor guy looked at me as though he didn't know why someone would want to poke him. After-all, we did just brace his feet 2 days earlier. I tell ya...this kid is incredibly special. We have been through a lot in just the first 2 months of life. He has been so good. We've been through the casting, feeding problems, bracing, shots, and through it all he has shown tremendous smarts and growth. At his check up he weighed 12 lbs 15 oz....50% percentile (We guessed 13 lbs!) He is 24.5" long (in the 90% percentile!!) He has recently shown interest in sitting and standing! His dr said babies normally don't show interest in this until about 4 months so we are excited that even with a brace on his feet, he is still trying hard to move. He LOVES to sit. It won't be very long until he sits on his own. Momma so proud. He has also moved up a size in diapers which I LOVE because he have a TON of size 2 in his closet from the baby showers. Can we say HOLLA for no buying diapers for a while?!? Yup. check.

Since his cast is FINALLY off we can give him real baths rather than sponge baths. We gave him his first bath the night he got his cast off. Initial contact in a tub of water was hilarious. Talk about wide-eyed confused! Not quite a splish-splash-taking a bath experience but at least he can join the bath club now.

Until next time..enjoy the cuteness

Snow Day!

This morning we woke up to this:

SNOW! We didn't believe there would be snow until we saw it. But sure enough it was still snowing hard when we woke up. So my husband took the day off to play with Landon in his first snow day...Ok actually he took the day off because we have to take Landon in for his first set of shots and my car doesn't have the traction for the snow. And I don't have the confidence to drive in the snow. But anyway we thought it would be fun to bundle Landon up and take a few shots before the snow melts away for good.

Enjoy the cuteness.

The Shoes

Yesterday...the day we have been waiting for for the past 2 months...has come and gone. Yesterday Landon got his 6th cast OFF and the new Ponseti shoes ON. Yesterday was a rough day! Lots of tears shed and sleep lost. As you can see in the pictures below, the shoes have a bar in between them that restrict his feet from moving freely. He can still swing his legs all over but his feet stay stationary....for 3 solid months. When the cast first came off his foot looked swollen. It was much bigger than the other foot and the ankle seemed puffy. His doctor said this is normal and the swelling will go down.. I think it has. Then there was the massive amount of dry skin. Poor guy was super flakey. I kept wiping his leg and adding more lotion. Today the flakes have flaked and it's starting to look more like the other leg. Also today he has not cried this painful cry as much as yesterday. So I think he is figuring out that this shoe has to be his normal for right now. We played like it is in hopes to get him comfortable. I spent some time stretching his legs out so that he could see his leg goes out past the bent angle it's been in for the last 2 months. He can lift the brace up great. During tummy time he did great at moving his legs up underneath him. Sometimes he gets a kick out of tummy time...Other times not so much. But I was impressed with him today. We have also been spending time practicing sitting. It's cute. If you let him grab your fingers while he is lying on his back, he will attempt to pull himself up...with a little help from you, he sits up and kinda looks around checking things out. Then we lay back down for a small rest and sit up again. He loves it.

So, here's to hoping the shoes become the norm for Landon real soon. I hate to see him confused and frustrated with them. It's a love hate relationship with those shoes. We LOVE what they are doing for him and that this method has kept him from needing any pokes or prods, and at the same time we hate to see him have to go through this. We are blessed that it is correcting so well. And here's to hoping these 3 months go by smoothly.

2 months and 0 days

I awaited anxiously for Landon to wake from his morning nap today so that I could take his 2 month pictures. I had the blanket and little 2 month sign ready. Thought I had to camera ready until I learned the batteries were dead. And so he woke up and I swooped him right into his room where I would take his sweet little pictures. Usually he is super happy and smiley right after a nap so that is what I was trying to capture. Well...it didn't go as planned and I had to use my camera on my phone. Here is how our little photo shoot went up until it ended with screaming and crying. Ok so I should have had food on hand but I wasn't that prepared. Enjoy.

What's on your home list?

There are some things on our list of MUSTS when buying a home and then there are some things on the list of WOULD REALLY REALLY LOVE (...but don't actually need). For example; a must: A/C, spacious kitchen, large family room. A really really love: walk in pantry, french doors to the master suite. While this next item is already on our MUST list, I must share with you why it was stamped with a confirm on the list yesterday. The item: FENCED BACKYARD.

The place we are at right now has no fenced backyard and backs up to a big field followed by a cute little house on the other side of the field.

So when our dog has to go outside we put a leash on him. The leash is staked into the ground and gives him enough room to go all the way around the perimeter of our yard but not on the neighbors field. So...yesterday I leash him up and immediately he takes off (tripping over his leash twice). I look up and notice a man and his grandson and 2 dogs cutting through the field. The direction of their walking tells me they cut through the side of our house and our yard and were headed for the house on the other side of the field. Well our dog so big and loud scares these 2 little yappie dogs and sends the old man tripping over the dog leash and falling on the ground. I assume on his own field. As I'm trying to ask the man if he is ok, I am also preoccupied with dodging dog poo in our yard. After asking him several times and getting no response (or so I thought) he gets up and storms off and never looks back. At that moment I decided on 2 things: 1. I am scooping this poo NOW (how embarrassing that old man cut through our yard and probably had to dodge lots of poo too) and 2. We need a fence! About 30 minutes later there is a knock at our door...our back door. And it's the little old man coming to apologize for his behavior and his language. This tells me he must have said some mean things to me as I was trying to see if he was ok. Good thing I didn't hear him. But still...weird that he chose to come to our back door rather than the front? I'm all for being a part of the neighborhood and all of that but if we have never met and you just cussed at me, by all means walk around to the front door please! A fence. That is on our MUST list.

cutekid.com

Not even 2 months old and Landon has found the tv. This is how we make him watch it...

Kidding. Although it's kinda funny. So I was thinking now that he is amused by the tv (for like 1 minute intervals) I better turn off the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills right? I'm not quite ready for the Barney...nor will I EVER be ready for Barney. Let's skip Barney and stay with Sesame Street and Baby Einstein and that sort of thing. Ok now that that's solved....if I felt like exploiting my not yet 2 month old, I would enter him into the cutekid.com photo contest as I am pretty sure he also thinks he's pretty darn cute. (I caught him laughing at himself in the mirror in the swing...adorable!)

So I only have 2 more weeks of leave until it's back to the working grind. Super sad :( I am going to miss our days together of eat, sleep, swing, cry while mommy showers, sleep again, eat, play. We did however find a daycare in town. He will be spending his days with a lady that our aunt referred us to so that in itself makes it better than a total stranger. I'm feeling ok about it but no matter where he goes, I don't love it only because it's not me staying home with him. I'll get over it I'm sure. So how will we make the most of these last 2 weeks together?

Rockin the JEANS

My baby has finally grown into the adorable jeans I love so much. I have been trying to get him to wear them for a few weeks now but they have been way too big. In celebration of the jeans fitting, we went and bought 2 more pairs! LOVE. The joys of motherhood are like this: After dressing him in his Oregon Duck onesie and jeans (cutest outfit ever!) I proceeded to feed him to get him nice and full for our trip to town. He then decides it's the perfect time to projectile all the milk he just ate all over his outfit and me. As I said...the joys of motherhood. You know I'm still in that phase where I get so excited to dress him in the morning and see what adorable outfit he will wear for the day. So it's a slight bummer when we don't get out of the house in that outfit. So I've decided that this is why it's key to take pictures of him before the spit up comes out. I'm a work in progress with this whole motherhood thing.

In other baby news, we attempted the bumbo seat again and the results were as follows:

He did it!...no cries in the chair but there was a little head bobbling followed by more spit up....followed by another onesie...this makes 3 outfits and counting today. If it weren't chilly out, I'd just let him hang out in his diaper and save me the laundry. Such is life.

Sacramento Visit

Well...we made it back from Sacramento. Landon did pretty well on the plane. He cried a little, slept a little, laughed a little and by then we were there. He chose to be uber fussy all weekend (joy!) but I think it was because his nap/feeding schedule was thrown off a little. I felt bad for the little guy. He met the family and just loved my grandpa and sister. Oh they had him cracking up! It was cute. I meant to take a 4 generation picture with my grandparents, dad, me & Landon and then with my grandma, mom, me & Landon but guess who forgot? bumm. I knew Saturday was a long day when by the time we got back to put him to bed, he was passed out while getting his diaper changed and jammies on and that just never happens! Sunday we spent some time with my mom's side of the family. It was great to see everyone! They all seemed to love Landon even though he was fussy again. Mom seemed to get him to smile as well. It takes talent I tell ya! no...I'm kidding. He's generally a happy baby. All in all it was a fun and safe trip and we made it back home without too much exhaustion.

Coffee and Airplanes

First...2 things: I wish Blogger would automatically remember me every time I open the page..I mean they are in my favorite links so I think I deserve a remember me that works, just saying. Also, I have been back on my coffee grind (which means 2+ a day please) and I am loving it. Oh how I missed my more than 1 cup a day kick.

Tomorrow we embark on a new adventure. Landon's first plane ride. Oh man am I nervous. I bought him these earplugs that I'm sure are going to be too big for his mini ears. Maybe if he freaks, they will fit MY ears :) Anyway, it's HARD packing for an infant. Who knows how many times he will pee his clothes in a weekend so 15 outfits for 3 days it is! Not to include all the jammy-jams, swadddles, blankets and socks. (side note: why do I always manage to knock his chair when he is fast asleep in it...I need to learn because it startles him and in turn startles me) Then there is the suitcase dedicated to his "gear". Forget about bringing the stroller! Tis why I LOVE the Baby Bjorn. I'm hoping to learn the do's and don'ts of flying with Landon so that when we go to Texas (YEEHAW) for my birthday (holla!) we can have it nailed.

For now, I devote my night to coffee, packing, maybe cookies if I'm good, some time spent with my Kindle (long overdue) and some cuddles with the family. Tomorrow may be a LONG day.

LANDON: This is where it all began...The day Brent and I met (Notice how young Brent looks)
